Beyond 4 Walls – Leaders-in Training (LIT’s)

Our Leaders-in-Training class (ages 13–17) offers youth a place to relax and escape the pressures of screens and social media. We offer this group a wide range of activities that ground them in relationship- with each other and our parkland. Fostering a care for the land, the heritage precinct and the TNNS community, these teens experience the value in giving oneself wholly to others.

The LIT group mentors the 5–7s every other class, creating meaningful opportunities for older youth to practice leadership while younger children experience guidance and support. Together, they learn to work cooperatively while cultivating compassion, responsibility, and thoughtfulness.

Stories of the Land, Lessons for Tomorrow

We’re grateful to continue our connection with Kevin Takahidelee (@kevintakahidelee), someone who carries a deep appreciation for art, nature, and the enduring hope for humanity. His family once lived in the cottage we now call our Nature School home, sharing a longstanding and meaningful relationship with this land.

Our Leaders-in-Training group had the opportunity to listen to stories from the past and take part in a game that brought to life aspects of Japanese history in British Columbia—the hardships, the resilience, and the contributions. Alongside these experiences, they were reminded of the importance of treating one another with kindness and respect, and of showing up as thoughtful, engaged citizens within their communities and beyond.
