Trisha Barbarona (any pronoun)
Early Childhood Educator Assistant
Trisha has a background in Early Childhood Education from Sprott Shaw College and Langara and 8 years of experience teaching and caring for children and youth aged 1-18 years old from 2018-onwards. They have spent 4 years and counting in the field of Outdoor Education as an educator with Terra Nova Nature School and a program coordinator with the Environmental Youth Alliance. They strongly believe in having the land and water as our teacher and to always centre Indigenous practices and the traditional ways of knowing and being. Through the years, their pedagogy has been rooted in project-based learning, centering community, decolonizing education, trauma-informed practices and harm reduction strategies.
The knowledge and experience they bring to the table lies in storytelling, native plant horticulture, wetland conservation, agriculture and food justice and they aim to continue learning further about protecting our waterways and Indigenous food and land sovereignty. Currently, they are a part of the Wednesday Trailblazer team and have been since 2022. When not teaching, Trisha goes roller skating, dancing ballet and takes their dog, Tanya, on long walks in the forest.
“Trisha’s go-to karaoke song is Mr. Brightside by The Killers, and the elements Trisha feels closest to are Water and Air because, as a child, Trisha wanted to be a mermaid when growing up.”
